Jackson Hoodie
In february I finished a hoodie. I saw a lady in a patterned hoodie and it looked great so I wanted one but the shops mostly have plain ones these days. So when I visited The Fabric Counter in Stoneybatter I had my eye out for some fabric suitable for a hoodie. I found some really nice floral patterned french terry so I bought enough for a hoodie.
I have made the Jackson top by Helen's Closet patterns a few times now and it fits me really well. There is a free expansion pack to turn it into a hoodie so I downloaded that. I used my projector to project the pattern and cut it out with a mat and rotary cutter. I'll do a post about how I use my projector. I used a lime green jersey to line the hoodie. You can make it unlined but I'm glad I lined it as it adds a nice finishing touch I think. You can see in the photos I used a load of clips to secure it. I started using clips a few years ago and I really like them. I use pins on some things but mostly clips. The hood wasn't difficult to construct. I like that the hood has an inset as I think that looks better when it's worn. Im sure you could use this hood on other t-shirt patterns. I also added the kangaroo pocket as I had enough fabric to do that. I added cuffs on the sleeves and a cuff on the bottom.
I was delighted with how this turned out. The patterned hoodie idea really worked I think. The french terry was nice to work with. I like the fit but the bottom band is a little tight. I'm going to wear it and decide how I feel about it. If it's annoying I might just remove it and do a normal hem. I could also extend the band a bit. I like sewing everyday clothes that I can wear all the time. So having a hoodie pattern that I know works for me is nice. I can make it in nice colours and prints.
