Zadie Jumpsuit

My first sewing make of this year was a more involved project, a jumpsuit. I don't pay loads of attention to the sewing social media world but even I've heard of the Zadie jumpsuit. It's a pattern loved by everyone and I can see why. It's a gorgeous jumpsuit and seems to look good on everyone who makes it. The pattern is by Paper Theory and you can find it here. It's a relaxed wrap front jumpsuit with wide legs. There is also a dress expansion pack which I also purchased as I think it is lovely too.

A phot of a white woman wearing a jumpsuit in a patterned navy fabric. It has a wrap front and wide legs.

I got some patterned viscose from The Fabric Counter in Stoneybatter. I cut it out before christmas using my rotary cutter, mat and projector. The pattern comes with a projector file which is very handy. I made a mistake and didn't have quite enough fabric for one of the legs. I cut out a piece and pattern matched it as best I could and it's not that noticable on the final garment. It's something I'll have to avoid doing in future though. Sometimes it’s hard to do the Tetris to get all the pattern pieces out of the fabric you have. I made size 18. I am 5ft 4in/162cm and usually fit a size 16 in Irish and UK high street clothes brands. I like when a pattern gives finsihed garment measurements and this one does. I compared them to a jumpsuit I have that I like the fit of. I also compared the pattern pieces to a trouser pattern I have that I know fits me. I made the version with long sleeves. I also lengthened the legs as I don't think wide leg cropped trousers suit me. However I do think a shorts length version of this jumpsuit would look nice.

I got back to sewing it after christmas and I was surprised by how quickly this came together. It's a jumpsuit so it's like making a top and trousers at the same time. It has pockets too to add to the amount of pieces. But despite all that I sewed it up really quickly. I finished the seams with my overlocker. I had seen people say they had trouble with the bias binding at the front because it's sewn onto a curve but I found this ok. I've done a lot of projects with binding recently and I think I've gotten better at sewing it on. You can see the finished garment in the top picture. I will have to get better at taking project pictures for this blog. In winter in Ireland we don't get a lot of good daylight so decent pictures are hard to come by. It feels very nice to wear and is comfortable. Partly because of the viscose which is a fabric I love. But also because of the wrap and nice comfortable fit of the jumpsuit. I could perhaps shorten the rise a little if I make it again. I'll see how it is while I'm wearing it but I may add a snap fastener on the neck if it gapes. All in all I can see why everyone loves this pattern so much. I look forward to wearing it for the end of spring and summer.
