Cielo Top

In October I sewed my last garment of the year. I made the Cielo top by Closet Core Patterns. I bought this pattern as part of their Rome collection bundle during a sale. I have found the sizing on closet core patterns a bit tricky. I have made their Kalle shirtdress and found I had to go down a few sizes. It's worth paying close attention to the finished sizes and the pattern pieces. I made the pietra pants from Closet Core and unfortunately they didn't fit me at all. It was my mistake, I should have done a proper toile version of them. I will try again and adjust the pattern for me. I sized down again for the cielo top using the finished measurements. The fabric I had was some that was given to me a while ago and I didn't have very much of it. So I decided I'd chance it and that it would hopefully fit ok in the end.

Thankfully it turned out well. I ended up really liking this top. When the weather warms up hopefully I will get some wear out of it. The black and grey will match other clothes that I have. I can see myself making it again. It can take a while when sewing to get garments you can really wear. There's a combination of suitable pattern, fit and fabric that can be hard to get right. As I get more experience I am getting more skilled at it. I had a few things in my fabric stash which were given to me or I bought years ago. I am going through them and I will donate any that I know can't be made into something wearable or a bag. When I buy new fabric I will have a better idea of which fabrics work with which patterns. I also hope to buy only colours and prints that I know will suit my wardrobe.
