Tiny Paintings
I don't remember exactly when I first saw tiny painting a few years ago, maybe it was a video on youtube or an instagram reel. I do remember it was the artist Leslie Stroz I saw talking about her tiny painting process, I've linked one of her more recent videos here. I was fascinated because here was an easy lightweight way to squeeze some painting into a day out or a walk or even at home.
I ordered a tiny palette from Natsume Handmade on etsy. It's very cute. It has magnets so it clips together. There's eight paintwells and a tiny palette. I use it with a small waterbrush. I needed a small watercolour sketchbook to clip it to and I decided to make my own. It's not very hard to make one and it's quite satisfying. There are lots of tutorials around, I used a few from the Sea Lemon youtube channel. I had many of the supplies as there's a lot of overlap with sewing. I can fit everything into a small pencil case that then easily fits in my bag. You can see in the photo what fits into it.
I really enjoy using this little kit especially on holidays when I paint little landscapes. It really helps me slow down and enjoy the place and really observe it. Here are a few photos of tiny paintings I've done over the last few years.
