Casting on in green

I've finished up two big projects recently, the winter doodle jumper and the hexagon cardigan. So it was time to cast on something new. Over the past while I haven't bought much yarn and I've been steadily working away at using my yarn stash. Last year I gave some away at a knitting meet up. I also gained some lovely yarn there. What I have in my stash now feels manageable, it isn't overwhelming but there is also enough that I have scope when it comes to casting on something new.

I decided that I'd cast on one knit and one crochet project so I can switch between them as I feel like it. It's also easier on my hands that way.

Ysolda Teague released the knitworthy 9 collection before christmas last year. I've knit many projects from the knitworthy collections over the years and enjoyed them. These new designs continue her recent theme of patterns that can be knit at multiple gauges often without having to do a gauge swatch. I've made two of her famous Musselburgh hats. The Mae Scarf is a long scarf with pointy ends which is very fashionable in the knit world because of the Sophie scarf by Petite Knit, I haven't made that one. The Mae scarf is knit in the round which I think looks better. I cast on in green Bergere de france alaska. It's an aran weight that is 50% wool and my mum gave it to me. There is a four row repeat which is easy enough to memorise.

I had some lovely BC Garn Bio Balance that had been gifted to me. It's a lovely blend of 55% wool and 45% cotton. I decided to do a ripple stitch scarf with it. I made a crochet scarf recently and got a lot of wear from it. This will be a wide scarf which will be nice as an extra layer in any season. I'm using an Annie Design Crochet pattern the vibrant granny ripple stitch scarf. There's a photo of the yarn below, there are two green balls, two off white and one pink. Im going to do a block of green and then stripe in the white and then do the same with the pink. I could have striped them throughout but I think my way will give it a different modern look. So when I cast on I noticied that the green yarn is a pretty similar colour to the yarn I'm using for the Mae scarf. I like this dark green colour, it suits me and I have a coat in a similar shade.

I will be knitting and crocheting away on these for the next while. I may update on them here. It's a slow process and not really suited for the fast pace of the internet hence all the videos where you see people using chunky chenille yarn so they get to the ta da moment more quickly.
